It is a joy to share their work with others. Today, I am featuring Jan Coffey of Coffey House.

As Jan says,"Hi, my name is Jan Coffey. I'm a self-taught artist/designer. I've had two instructional painting books published, as well as having my designs in several magazines since 1998. I've been selling my work for over 15 years. Although I enjoy doing mostly primitive folk art style designs, I love to try various mediums, including mixed media collage and doll making. Painted Panache by Joann Y Wheeler. I choose that name because that's the name I have had my business under since I began painting porcelain in 1986. Panache is defined as distinctive and stylish elegance. The word seemed to fit especially with my hand painted porcelain.

2. How long have you been on Etsy?

Since February 2007

3. How long have you been crafting?

For at least 30 years.

5. Who or What inspires you?

Nature. I love to paint flowers and animals. God inspires me. I enjoy doing religious paints as well. And i'm one of those people who cannot paint unless inspired by something.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?

I can't say that I have one thing that is my absolute favorite. Every time I get one, it seems like someone buys it! However, I do tend to favor my handpainted porcelain because I believe it's one of those things that you can pass down for generations to come.

7. There are three to a set and they look as if they had been dipped in white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Then I swirled complimentary shades of chocolate colored paint to give them that gourmet look! These measure 4 inches wide and 4 inches tall, excluding the natural stem. The paint used for the chocolate makes them look as though they were truly dipped in chocolate and then swirled with other types of chocolate. My children are nearly grown and, to put it simply, I need things to do. I love to paint and sew and the inspiration for everything I do is what I am surrounded by.

My farm lies on the gently rolling hills of north western Illinois, just sought of where the glaciers stopped way back when.

Our weather is a little harsh at times. Once in a great while, the sheriff has been know to get on his snow mobile to close roads during really tough snowstorms. There are the occasional tornado warnings. To put it simply, we respect nature. Amish live north of us in Wisconsin and when I go to the bulk food store there, we give each other hugs. I have learned a lot form them.

My goal in everything I do is to keep it simply and inviting. Make people feel at home so that my home is a place of comfort and love. I hope that is reflected in what I do.

I also respect those who have come before us. My great grandfather, Julius Martin Kringel, homesteaded in both Minnesota and Iowa. It is his kindness and respect for people and his work ethic that have influenced me immensely.

New patterns will be announced here as well as featuring customer favorites.

Welcome to Prairie Harvest Arts.

Hugs,

BarbBarb King of Prairie Harvest Artshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10800640675696708556noreply@blogger.com0
